Can I put a regular dog collar over a flea & tick collar?
We've been using Frontline, but it doesn't really work that well. Ticks are the main problem where we live, not fleas. And Frontline just doesn't kill ticks very well.
Our vet recommended a flea & tick collar, she said it was much more effective than any topical product, and it costs much, much less too!
Anyways, can we put our dogs regular collar over the flea & tick collar? The box doesn't say anything about it, and we've never used one.
Hmmm, frontline usually works pretty well for ticks. The new one even works on mosquitoes.
Try biospot next. Tick collars don't last very long, but they are cheaper than frontline. Yeah you can use them under or over a collar.
You might consider a tick dip if nothing else is working.

It's Summer - Protect Your Pets and Your Home From Fleas and Ticks
Protect your pets from fleas and ticks and the misery and diseas they bring. Naturally you love your pets and will do all that you can to keep them from harm. It is not possible for you to isolate them from fleas and ticks, but it is possible for you to get rid of a current infestation and to protect them from becoming re-infested.
It is a fact that the warmer the climate, the more prevalent the population of fleas and ticks, making it more important to provide protection for your pets during the summer months, the worst time for infestations.
Modern products, when applied to your pets' skin as directed, will kill 100% of fleas within 12 hours, and ticks within 48 hours. All stages of development of the insects are killed, from eggs to adults, and their life cycle is broken. Veterinary approved, products are absorbed through the insect's exoskeleton and attack the central nervous system. These products are safe for mammals when used as directed.
When applying the product you should remove your pet's collar and separate the hair between the shoulder blades. Apply the entire contents of the dosing sachet directly to your pet's skin in one spot - and that's it. If possible, leave the collar off for the next 24 hours until the application has dried thoroughly.
The active ingredient in the best products available today is called Fipronil. Fipronil is absorbed into the oil glands in your pet's skin and distributed throughout the body by a process call translocation. The translocation process can take up to 24 hours to complete.
Gradually dispersed by your pet's natural oils, Fipronil is translocated to your pet's skin and coat, The Fipronil goes on working, killing any fleas and ticks present and protecting your pets from re-infestation, for a whole month before a further application is needed.
Following application, once the treatment has dried, protection is not affected by moisture and your pet may be bathed, go out in the rain or swim as normal.
Protect your pet from the discomfort and diseases which can be caused and transmitted by fleas and ticks with a Fipronil-based product.
